✈️ Your March Probation Survival Guide Starts Now! | Crew Briefing

Hello Reader,

✈️ Welcome Aboard

Welcome to March, one of the most meaningful months in my journey as a flight attendant. Lately, my classmates and I have been celebrating our 20-Year Anniversary, reminiscing about the day we first donned our wings.

We started training on January 28, 2006, and I’ll never forget the excitement, and nerves, as we graduated on March 1.

That's me on the top right looking out the window of the cabin trainer.

Thinking back, I’m reminded of those first, fragile months on probation. Not everyone in my class made it through, and the lessons from that time have never left me.

March is what I call "probation season." All month long, I’ll be sharing my best tips for getting through probation. While most people make it, a surprising number don’t, and these strategies can make all the difference in keeping your record spotless.

Here’s the real secret: probation isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up, again and again. It’s about building habits and systems that make reliability second nature, so you’re never late, never caught off guard.

If you create that system now, you’ll breathe easier for the rest of your career.

The Interview Masterclass is your inside track, packed with the exact strategies, frameworks, and support you need to stand out and get hired.

This isn’t just theory, it’s real-world, proven advice from someone who’s been on both sides of the interview table. You’ll learn how to answer tough questions, avoid common pitfalls, and present yourself as the candidate every airline wants for their crew.

If you’re truly serious about landing the job, don’t leave your interview to chance. Give yourself every advantage.

➡️ LEARN MORE and secure your spot!

Don’t take my word for it, hear what others are saying:

“Thanks to Deanna, I landed CJO offers from two of the big three US airlines! Her expertise and dedication are truly exceptional. We’re so grateful for her help and highly recommend her masterclass to anyone pursuing a career in aviation.”

💡 Tip of the Week - The One-Hour Early Report Rule

This tip is specifically for the start of your trip, when you are leaving home and reporting to the airport.

On probation, the fastest way to protect your record is to remove variables. My personal rule was simple. I arrived at least one hour early every single time.

I actually carried that rule throughout my entire career. I don’t think I've ever been to the airport without being at least an hour early.

I spent my extra time doing surveys on Survey Junkie to make some extra cash, catching up with friends, or watching a movie. The airport was always my second home. They don’t call it a lifestyle career for nothing!

That one-hour buffer covers traffic, parking, employee shuttle delays, being randomly selected for extra screening at KCM (Known Crewmember, a program for expedited security), and anything else unpredictable.

I flew for almost 19 years and was never late, not once. No blemishes, and the one-hour early report rule is exactly how I managed that.

Your goal is not to be early once. Your goal is to become the person who is never rushing.

🛍️ Amazon Storefront & Pick of the Week

Pick of the Week: A reliable & rechargeable flashlight - This one is my current pick!

A flashlight is a simple, required duty item. I love the USB rechargeable flashlights you can put on your keychain. I know that every phone has a flashlight these days, but that doesn’t count toward your duty item.

I would buy them by the box and then give them as gifts to my favorite crew members, because every flight attendant needs a flashlight!

For interview outfits, flight attendant must-haves, and overall fun stuff, check out the Future Flight Attendant Amazon Storefront HERE.

🎙️ Final Boarding Announcement

If you take nothing else from this week, take this.Probation is not about proving your worth. It is about protecting your record and keeping your hard-earned job while you gain your footing.

You are allowed to be new. You are not allowed to be unreliable.

If you know anyone who can benefit from this information, you can share it by forwarding this email.

Wheels up!

Hello Reader, If you’re reading this mid-flight, on a layover, or dreaming of the day you will be, welcome back. I’ve been deep in writing mode the last few weeks, racing to finish a book proposal before a June 5th deadline. Last fall, I gifted myself a spot in a prestigious writing program, and it’s a contest for the program participants. If you’ve been around here a while, you know storytelling is kind of my thing. This is book one of a trilogy, and there is a lot of flight attendant stuff...

Hello Reader, Welcome to this week’s Crew Briefing. This week is a reminder that you do not need perfect circumstances to take care of yourself. You just need a few simple habits and a couple of smart tools. Today we are talking about rest, naps, and being comfortable even when the operation is not. Summer is coming, and I don’t need a crystal ball to tell me there will be meltdowns. They seem to happen every single summer at different airlines. 🛫 Who’s Hiring Flight Attendants Allegiant...

March is what I call probation season. Did you know that during your first six months of flying, you are usually on probation? That is the window where you protect your record by staying reliable. Perfect attendance and on-time performance go a long way. Habits that make professionalism feel automatic. We are...
