✈️ Polished Means Polished 💅 | Crew Briefing

Hello Reader,

Fall started on Monday, and I’m super excited for spooky season! It’s my favorite time of year, and the leaves are already starting to change here in the Appalachian Mountains. The view from an aircraft window this time of year, especially if you're flying to the East Coast, is incredible.

Tip of the Week - Polished Means Polished 💅

Being polished in uniform extends beyond your shoes and clothes; it’s in the details, such as your nails.

For Women:

  • Keep nails short to medium length (¼ inch or less past the fingertip).
  • Stick to one solid color: French, nude, pinks, or classic red are always safe and timeless.
  • No neon, glitter, or designs - chip-free polish is non-negotiable.

For Men:

  • Nails should be clean, trimmed, and natural.
  • Even if some airlines technically allow men to wear nail color, skip it for the interview; you never know the personal view of the person interviewing you, and it’s not worth the risk.
  • A light buff can add a healthy shine without polish.

💺 Pro Tip

Press-on gels are a great quick fix (practice first and carry glue plus extra nails). Start a daily routine with cuticle oil and lotion to keep hands looking sharp. Once you’re flying, the dry air and airplane water will quickly dry them out.

Hello Reader, I hope you're having a great week so far. It’s the first week of October, and I have to admit, I’ve been decorating for Halloween all week. I keep my tree out all year, and either decorate it or leave it plain, it saves me time and the effort of packing and unpacking. I’ve done enough packing and unpacking as a flight attendant! I like to look at pretty things that make me feel happy and magical. I might have gotten a little carried away, but fall is my favorite time of year. I...

Hello Reader, I believe there is always a message in everything if we are willing to look for it. I love all animals, but I have a special fondness for winged ones, the feathered kind and the big metal birds that serve as our offices in the sky. This week I spotted a black eagle, only the second I’ve ever seen. It was massive and unforgettable, a reminder that even when life feels heavy, there is beauty in the lessons we carry forward. For those of you navigating interviews right now,...

Hello Reader, Today, we pause to honor the memory of September 11, 2001. The courage of flight crews on that day continues to inspire many of us in this career, and their legacy, which we carry forward. On a personal note, I had a freak accident and broke my toe recently (ouch!), so if things feel a little quieter than usual, thank you for your patience.
