✈️ What kind of flight attendant are you, really? | Crew Briefing

Hello Reader,

My kids are home for the summer, and the first thing they did was clean their rooms. I almost fainted. Full-on decluttering. It spoke directly to my love language: clearing space to make room for what’s next.

And then this happened: one of the deer near our property was hit by a car. It was unfortunate. But then the vultures came. They cleared it. The deer wasn’t wasted. Nature took care of what was left, with purpose. It reminded me of something important: clearing, in every form, is sacred work.

You can see them on Instagram HERE.

Flight attendants know this better than anyone. Whether you’re in training, on the line, or dreaming of your wings, this job is about managing energy and navigating chaos with calm, clearing what’s not needed. Protecting the peace of the cabin and yourself the best you can.

This week’s Crew Briefing is all about working with different personalities because emotional clutter can be just as exhausting as physical mess.

And the best crew members? They don’t just clean up after the passengers. They hold the energy of the entire flight.

Let’s get into it.

I just wrote one of the most fun blog posts ever: What Kind of Flight Attendant Are You? Meet the 4 Flight Attendant Personality Types

I broke down flight attendants into different personality archetypes because, let’s be real, you’ll meet every type of energy on the aircraft.

I’ve always loved studying archetypes, and I’ve been wanting to create one for flight attendants, so I did!

I even got input from my FA bestie so we could compare notes on the most annoying crew behaviors (yes, leaving the sidewalls on after boarding made the list).

Whether you're already flying or still dreaming of being qualified to ride the jumpseat, this post will give you an inside look at the personalities you’ll be working with, and how to navigate them without losing your mind.

Tip of the Week - Working With Different Personalities

Let me tell you a story:

At my airline, there was a flight attendant who had a terrible reputation. People avoided her. There was even an animated YouTube video making fun of her.

But when I saw her on my pairing, I made a decision. I would form my own opinion.

And I loved her.

She never sat still. The cabin was spotless. The passengers adored her. She liked me too, probably because I never sat still either.

Turns out, she just had no patience for lazy people. And while that may not have landed well with everyone, I respected her standards.

She was pure fire. (One of the flight attendant archetypes!) She worked best with people who pulled their weight and more.

From that point on, I made it a point to choose trips whenever I saw her scheduled for them. She was a pleasure to work with.

The moral of the story is that despite the variety of personalities we encounter, it’s important to form our own opinions, recognize each person's strengths, and remember that anyone can have a bad day.

That's it for this week.

Hello Reader, After the Southwest alert glitch, I received hundreds of emails. Some were hard to read, but most were thoughtful, kind, and deeply encouraging. I have been reading every single one, and I want to say thank you. Your messages reminded me of something important. The flight attendant I was working with was in the forward galley with headphones on, the galley curtain closed, and watching a movie. He didn’t even know I was being attacked in the aisle. That moment changed everything...

Hello Reader, Southwest Airlines opens flight attendant applications tomorrow! This is one of the most competitive flight attendant positions in the U.S., and the hiring window is typically short. In past years, the site has even crashed because of the number of applicants. You’ll want to refresh frequently and apply the moment it opens. You can go through the link on the ➡️Future Flight Attendant Job Board. Even if the link on the job board does not yet say "hiring" click on it anyway. If...

Hello Reader, Happy Juneteenth! Juneteenth is a time to remember that, even though freedom was delayed, denied, or disguised in various ways, we are still here, still evolving, and still breaking through ceilings that were said to be unbreakable. It’s a moment to recognize that the sky isn’t the limit; it’s just the beginning. Your very presence in spaces where someone tried to keep you out is a form of freedom. If you're fighting to be seen because of your ethnicity, nationality, identity,...
