Tip of the Week – Shoes Matter More Than You Think

As a flight attendant, you can easily walk up to five miles a day between the airport, gates, and in-flight service.

Women, if you wear the uniform dress (and who doesn't want to, they are usually the cutest pieces), you are required to wear heels in the terminal and on the ground.

The good news is that you can change into your service shoes before getting ready for the service. Flight attendants call these shoes "inflights."

Most men do not change their shoes once on board, but some do, and we need to normalize that. Everyone is entitled to comfort because if you cannot walk comfortably, you cannot work comfortably!

That is why investing in the right shoes is not a luxury; it is a career necessity. Your ankles, knees, and back will thank you. And let us face it, the best-looking shoes are not always the most comfortable.

But if you can find comfort and a sharp-looking pair, that is gold.

Bonus Tip: You can buy your flight attendant shoes now and wear them to your interview. That way, you are already breaking them in, you will look polished, and you will not have to buy (or buy shoes twice) later.

I have put together a comprehensive breakdown of flight attendant-approved shoes, including the best heels, flats, and in-flight options to save your feet and sanity.

Pro Tip: Our recommendations are organized into “women’s” and “men’s” sections for convenience, but that is just labeling. Select the option that works best for you and your airline’s uniform guidelines. Comfort does not have a gender, and we respect your individuality in your choice of shoes.

If you have any shoe recommendations, please let me know. I'd love to share them with the community!

Wheels up!

It’s got romance, rivalry, and a reminder that professionalism never goes out of style, even when others forget theirs. Hello Reader, I hope you’re having a cozy October week! The air is crisp, the Halloween tree is glowing, and I’m sipping pumpkin-spiced tea while writing this week’s Crew Briefing. It’s that magical time of year when the skies are clear, and the questions in my inbox start getting really good. This week’s topic, sparked by a reader's insightful question about rehiring eligibility after leaving a former airline, is a crucial one in our industry. Who's Hiring Flight Attendants One regional and...

Hello Reader, I hope you're having a great week so far. It’s the first week of October, and I have to admit, I’ve been decorating for Halloween all week. I keep my tree out all year, and either decorate it or leave it plain, it saves me time and the effort of packing and unpacking. I’ve done enough packing and unpacking as a flight attendant! I like to look at pretty things that make me feel happy and magical. I might have gotten a little carried away, but fall is my favorite time of year. I...
